Para mí es como si el sonido “cantara” alrededor de la cabeza. Encontrar ese centro requiere practicar notas largas. Lo ideal es hacer una escala muy lenta de notas largas. Si no tienes tiempo, escoge al menos algunas notas graves, medias y agudas. Imagina dos líneas horizontales y un círculo entre ellas: en el centro, la afinación es estable y el sonido florece, cerca de la línea superior, el sonido se vuelve agresivo y forzado, cerca de la inferior, débil y apagado. La mano izquierda se coloca sobre el abdomen o la cintura para que podamos sentir la respiración. Con la flauta sobre el labio inferior, primero exhalamos todo el aire: no dentro de la flauta, sino por encima, y luego abrimos la boca en forma de "O" o "A". En lugar de exhalar normalmente, como antes, ahora soplamos en la flauta. In all France there is only one conservatory of higher education where the recorder is taught, so very few enter. The level of these fantastic young musicians is impressive, and I can’t wait to see their developments in the musical world! We worked on posture and gravity in the body, where the energy can get stuck in the body when we play, the tongue and what to do when it’s too noisy, study routines, but also about diminution in consort playing, ornamentation in 17th century airs de cour, Händel and his particular musical language, and much more. This year I'm brushing up my German and French with really fantastic classes at the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas (they have Official Language Schools in Spain, which is so awesome!!), so it was a great opportunity to communicate in French as well. In all France there is only one conservatory of higher education where the recorder is taught, so very few enter. The level of these fantastic young musicians is impressive, and I can’t wait to see their developments in the musical world! We worked on posture and gravity in the body, where the energy can get stuck in the body when we play, the tongue and what to do when it’s too noisy, study routines, but also about diminution in consort playing, ornamentation in 17th century airs de cour, Händel and his particular musical language, and much more. This year I'm brushing up my German and French with really fantastic classes at the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas (they have Official Language Schools in Spain, which is so awesome!!), so it was a great opportunity to communicate in French as well. I first work on a warming-up that suits the level of the students, where they already start listening to the body, the space and the sounds. Here we also introduce reacting to the others around us. Then we start improvising in the space, playing with the basic elements of tempo, duration, repetition and contrast. We keep adding elements, without losing this close listening of the body to the space and to others. What emerges is a fun time for students and some really beautiful visual and theatrical situations that just emerge naturally! One student told me how she had been “in her head” the entire morning at school, and that the Viewpoints allowed her to come out of it and just BE. This is an ideal way of group working, where students connect with themselves and the others in a very organic and FUN way! It’s for actors, musicians, dancers, but also team building for any branch! Siempre empiezo con un calentamiento que se adapte al nivel de los estudiantes, donde ya comienzan a escuchar el cuerpo, el espacio y los sonidos. Aquí también introducimos la reacción a los demás que nos rodean. Luego comenzamos a improvisar en el espacio, jugando con los elementos básicos de tempo, duración, repetición y contraste. Seguimos agregando elementos, sin perder esta escucha atenta del cuerpo al espacio y a los demás. ¡Lo que surge es un momento divertido para los estudiantes y algunas situaciones visuales y teatrales realmente hermosas que surgen naturalmente!
