Lobke Sprenkeling is the recorder teacher at the Royal Madrid Conservatory, where she also teaches Historical Ornamentation and Improvisation.

As a recorder player, she has performed with Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid, Les Talens Lyriques, la Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana, La Ritirata, Concerto 1700, Ímpetus Ensemble, La Capella de Ministrers, Harmonia del Parnàs, La Academia de los Nocturnos etc. She has given classes in Holland, Estonia, Spain, USA and Mexico.

As a multidisciplinary artist, she has created her own theatrical works Incipit (2015, 2018) and Lost (2017), has collaborated in the theater work Je Suis Toi (2018), was accepted into Cirque du Soleil as a vocalist/recorder player, has taught Viewpoints at several schools and conservatories in the USA and Mexico, and is the composer of the soundtrack of the short dance film Cocito (2023).

Education

Lobke Sprenkeling obtained her Bachelor of Music and Master's Degree in Recorder (Early Music) and Experimental Music Theatre at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and the Utrecht Conservatory. In 2003, she received a national scholarship from the national Prins Bernhard Culture Fund in order to study Medieval music with Pedro Memelsdorff at the ESMUC (Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya) in Barcelona.

In 2016-2017, after obtaining her Doctorate in Music, she studied Theatre Making and Stage Direction at Carlos III University and Yale Summer Program, and took courses with SITI Company New York (Suzuki, Viewpoints techniques), choreographer Antonio Ruz and dramaturg Roland Schimmelpfennig. She has studied singing with Ina Boonen, Lennaert Roos, Astrid Crone, Paul Phoenix, Raquel Andueza and David Mason. She has also taken ballet and contemp classes for several years.

Teacher

Lobke has been teaching the recorder and Early Music for over 20 years. She was the recorder teacher at the Preparatory Conservatory of Valencia until 2016, and has been a guest teacher at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Castilla-La Mancha. In 2014 she was a guest teacher at the Summer Course of ERTA Estonia. Since 2017 she has been the recorder teacher at Madrid Royal Conservatory, where she's also taught Renaissance consort, chamber music and Improvisation & Ornamentation in the Early Music Department. In 2023 she was a guest teacher for Pierre Hamon’s class at the CNSMD (Lyon, France) within the Erasmus teacher mobility program. She teaches Viewpoints to professional dancers and body awareness to musicians.

Concertist

She has performed with several outstanding Early Music ensembles and orchestras, such as: Les Talens Lyriques, the Ambronay Baroque Orchestra, the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana, Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid, La Ritirata, Concerto 1700, Ímpetus Ensemble, Capella de Ministrers, Harmonia del Parnàs, La Academia de los Nocturnos, Capella Saetabis etc. She has collaborated in several CD recordings and has performed throughout Europe. She is also the co-founder of the Early Music Ensemble Musickes Delight, and has recorded the disc “Pulchra Es” with harpsichordist and organist Jorge López-Escribano, which was well-received by critics and audience.

Doctor in Music

Lobke obtained her Doctorate in Music with grade 9.2 out of 10 cum laude, at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia in 2016, with her artistic research on the meeting point between Early Music and Performance Art. This year she was invited to give a conference at the I International Congress on Investigation and Creation in Madrid.

WRITER

Lobke is a regular author for American Recorder Society magazine, and has written several articles for Windkanal magazine (Germany), The Recorder Magazine (Great-Britain), and Blokfluitist (The Netherlands).

Multidisciplinary Artist

She has also been involved in multidisciplinary theatre from a musical perspective. She performed her experimental Music Theatre pieces Incipit (2015, 2018) and Lost (2017) in different theatres in Valencia, Sevilla and Madrid. She has been part of the multidisciplinary collective Investro, and composed the soundscape piece Collywobbles for the choreographer and dancer Maria Chiara de' Nobili. She was composer and performer for the postdramatic theatre piece Je Suis Toi which had its première in Rabat (Morocco) in 2018. Another project, Dancing in the Desert, has been the beginning of an exploration of the relationship between natural spaces and the body. She is also the composer of the soundtrack of the short dance film Cocito (2023).

Lobke speaks several languages: Dutch (native speaker), English (C2 Proficiency by Cambridge), Spanish (C2 DELE), Catalán/Valencia (C1 Grau Mitjà), French (C1) and German (C1), with elementary fluency in Portuguese and Italian.
